Craig Anthony Perkins

Founder | Director

Pasadena Digital Media Labs founder and director Craig Anthony Perkins began his creative journey at age 4 when his father gave him his first set of drums (his Father, a Radio DJ and Concert Promoter by trade, was also a drummer for artists such as Lefty Frizzell.) Picking up guitar at age 8 and experimenting with recording techniques at a very early age with his Father's old reel-to-reel, cemented his desire for knowledge and exploration of technology.

Fast forward to many, many years later, and you will find a creative output in a variety of disciplines that cumulates into this, his latest endeavour, Pasadena Digital Media Labs (PDMLabs.)

Under his parent company Genshi Media Group, Craig's list of credits include the release of several albums under various band names with his ZERO:GENSHI Records label, along with sound design and scoring duties for a variety of indie films, commercials (one of which he was awarded the 2002 Telly Award for best jingle) and multimedia titles, internationally acclaimed toy designs with his GENSHI:TOY label, extensive work as audio editor for Avid's M-Audio division, author of the "Ableton Live 4 CSi Master" CD-ROM (published by Thomson Course Technology) and creator and engineer of the first (and to date, only) full album presented as individual tracks in the Ableton Live format for Grammy-Award winning artist Duncan Sheik's "White Limousine" album.

In addition, his recent work as a board approved educator of Digital Photography at Rio Hondo College sparked the idea to combine all of this experience as well as his love for a variety of creative and technical disciplines to form his own "Digital Media" education center, thus, PDMLabs was born!

Chad Carrier

Ableton Live Instructor

Chad Carrier's association with Ableton began over 5 years ago when he first demonstrated Live 3 at the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California. Based on the strength of that one demo alone, Chad secured a book deal and authored "Ableton Live 4 Power!" and "Ableton Live 5 Power!" for Thomson Course Technology. Those books offered a thorough and enjoyable approach to learning one of the newest and innovative music production tools of the decade covering all topics from basic MIDI and digital audio, to full production, remix, and live DJ performance.

A graduate of Musician's Institute in Hollywood, Chad is currently a lead product manager at Avid, Inc. and is also an adept Max/MSP programmer. He is fully immersed in today's digital audio technologies and continues to embrace Live with a passion, using it for almost all his daily computer-related audio tasks.

Leo Der Stepanian

Digital Photography Instructor

When he was 11 years old, Leo Der Stepanian picked up his dad's old rangefinder camera and never really put it down. Over the next 17 years, he has gone on to shoot everything from news and sports for local newspapers to headshots and portraits for a variety of magazines and websites. His cameras have been with him around the world (25 countries and counting) and he's even picked up a few accolades for his work.

When he does (temporarily) put down his camera, you can see Leo pursuing his other great passion: music production. He runs his own Santa Monica-based recording studio known as The Bunker and works as a product manager for Avid Technology. Several of his MIDI and audio recording products are #1 bestselling products in the world. Leo is a graduate of the University of California at San Diego and lives in Los Angeles.
